December 4, Merry Maple Lighting ceremony - Town Common.  Includes the UMASS Minutemen Marching Ban, hayrides, Santa and Toy Drive.  Click here for complete details.

December 5 and then nightly throughout December: Amherst Public Arts Commission presents 'Shedding Light,'  an installation project by Amherst artist Erika Zekos;  Swartz Family Farm  11Meadow Street, Rt. 116.  Visit swartzfarmamherst.com for times and further details. Open house begins at 3PM - December 5 lighting will be at 5PM so folks attending the Gala can also be at the First Shed Lighting - Thanks to the Swartz Family for making these special accommodations.

December 10, 2009  Emily Dickinson's Actual Birthday, a Party for "Perfect Crowds of Admirers" including a preview of scenes from "The Belle of Amherst"  5:30-7:30 pm  Lewis-Sebring Dining Commons, Valentine Hall, Amherst College campus  Fee: yes; Reservations Required.  Contact the Emily Dickinson museum.

December 12, 11 to 4 p.m. - Open House in honor of Emily Dickinson's Birthday. Emily Dickinson Museum

* December 13 - 250th Lecture: "Amherst-Picking the Future It Deserves." presented by Larry Shaffer at Town Hall, 2PM.  A fitting lecture to close a year of reflection.
