Founders Day, February 13, 2009
At Noon on Friday, Feb. 13, the town of Amherst, Mass., commemorated its founding 250 years to the day after it was established
with a 250th Founders Day opening ceremony featuring remarks by elected officials
and other prominent figures, a fanfare by the Amherst Regional High
School trumpet section, bells tolling and the reading of a government
proclamation recognizing the town.
A reception in recognition
of the Amherst founding families followed; descendants of those men
and women were invited to attend. The reception was held in the Town Room and
hosted by Atkins Farms Country Market.
