The photo at right is taken
from in front of what is now Amherst Chinese. The building is still under Amherst Chinese
but surrounded with storefront. Look for the cupola.
The alley is much
smaller behind the man in the vest. The store after the alley up
Main Street was the post office and still has bars in the
window.(Newman comics)
The building at the
end where Bank of America is kitty-cornered today was the Amherst Hotel.
The spur trolley
went from Amherst to Orient Springs across from
the Pelham
School where there was a hotel and
picnic destination. It was a popular Sunday outing place.
