Written for Amherst’s 250th
Anniversary

A Town So Nice
So Nice a Town because the streets at
least
Are all so “Pleasant” North and
South and East.
This side of Friendly’s, even Main
Street yields
To “Amity” and all those greener
fields
In which these happy precincts so
abound
And this is not to mention other things
Of greater import on the afore said
grounds
Clinics, assembly’s, retreats, and a
land granted U
Studios and Labs and a College or two
Music to which the very hillsides ring
Museums from the Eric Carle to Mead
Books back to back from Johnson to
DuBois
Frost, Monson, Jones with Poetry at
need
From Francis, Frost and Emily herself;
The Lexicon from our own Webster (Noah)
Fiction, Romance, and History
From Jacksons, Graysons, Garrisons, and
Fields.
So now as Hadley did and Pelham may
We celebrate the history that has seen
Us through so many seasons all this way
From Stockbridge, Strong, Clark,
Sweetser, Greene,
Metawampe, and the Man, Lord Jeffery A |

Committee Chair - Adrienne Terrizzi The subcommittee's objectives were to
represent the town's rich cultural and historical resources in the
written, visual and performing arts. We are collaborating with Amherst
museums, libraries, galleries, art centers, and cultural groups to
provide programming for all ages. A town-wide celebration during
Founder's Day Weekend, February 13-15, 2009, invited the entire
community to exhibits, lectures, open houses and receptions.
Additionally, we planned a weekly literary series, an evening
dedicated to the poetry, life and times of Robert Francis, a concert
celebrating our neighborhood cultures, children's activities, and
during the year, events to showcase the vibrant and creative energies
of Amherst's established and emerging artists.

The Amherst 250th Committee currently has 5
working subcommittees conducting the preliminary planning: History, Arts & Literature, Parade, Community Week and Marketing.
Participation in planning and programming is welcome, as are new
subcommittee members. Please contact the subcommittee chair for more
