Many businesses in town chose to support the events and programming of the 250th celebrations by sponsoring the blue and gold banners you see flying downtown.  The banners will be removed in March 2010 and given to the business sponsors.  At this time the hardware used to fly these will be given to the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce who will launch their own program of downtown beautification
